Today, let's introduce a type of grass that may not be unfamiliar to many gardening enthusiasts. Although it is treated as a weed in China, its fresh and charming appearance has made it a treasure abroad. It is Mirror Grass.
The leaves of Mirror Grass are usually round or teardrop-shaped, resembling the appearance of ancient ingots, hence the name "Money Grass" in some areas. There is a bright spot at the center of the leaf veins, which is symmetrical, resembling a mirror, giving the whole potted plant a vibrant look.
I. Propagation methods of Mirror Grass
There are mainly two propagation methods for Mirror Grass: cutting propagation and division propagation.
1. Cutting Propagation
Mirror Grass can be cut for propagation at the end of summer. We can cut the leaves with stems and plant them in slightly moist soil, keeping them in a shady place for about 15 days. Mirror Grass can take root in this time.
2. Division Propagation
The division propagation of Mirror Grass is not complicated either. We find the lateral branches that have sprouted at the base of the stems. When there are 2-3 new leaves, we can pick the lateral branches and plant them after the wound has dried.

II. Cultivation methods of Mirror Grass
1. Potting Soil
When growing Mirror Grass at home, we can choose equal parts of humus soil and garden soil, then add a small amount of river sand. For the base fertilizer, sheep manure can be used to prevent soil compaction and improve soil drainage.
2. Temperature
Mirror Grass can grow in a wide range of temperatures, from 5 to 30 degrees Celsius. However, if you want faster growth, a temperature of around 20 degrees Celsius is most suitable.
In spring, temperature changes can be quite significant, especially before Qingming Festival, when the day and night temperature differences are greater. If the leaves of Mirror Grass suddenly change color or fall off, it might be due to a sudden drop in temperature. So, pay more attention to weather changes in spring.
3. Lighting
Mirror Grass can tolerate shade but also enjoys plenty of sunlight. However, too strong sunlight can burn its leaves, so placing it in a scattered light area is most suitable. If there is a change in the brightness of the leaves of Mirror Grass, it can be adjusted through lighting.
