Key timing for cutting the flower stem
After the flowers have completely faded, the flower stem should be cut immediately, leaving a 5-7 cm stem to prevent the backflow of sap. Retaining all green leaves is crucial, as these leaves will continue to perform photosynthesis, storing nutrients for the bulb. Cutting the leaves too early can lead to poor bulb development, directly affecting the quality of blooming next year.
Continuous supply of water, fertilizer, and light
Continue with the regular watering frequency, keeping the soil slightly moist but not waterlogged. Supplement with phosphorus and potassium fertilizer (recommended to dilute with 1000 times of potassium dihydrogen phosphate) every half month to promote bulb expansion. Move to a diffused light environment, avoiding direct sunlight at noon, ensuring 4-6 hours of soft light every day.
Natural withering treatment process
In June and July, the natural yellowing of leaves is a signal of the bulb's maturity. Stop watering and let the potting soil completely dry out, carefully dig out the bulb, and remove the surface soil. Retain the outer healthy scales, remove the rotting roots, and place in a well-ventilated area to dry for 3 days.
Precise control of storage environment
Wrap the bulbs in a net bag or newspaper and store them in a dry, dark environment at 15-18°C. Regularly check for mildew, and isolate any diseased bulbs immediately. In humid southern regions, it is recommended to fill the storage container with vermiculite or sawdust.
By precisely controlling the post-blooming care period, hyacinth bulbs can maintain the ability to rebloom for 3-5 years. When replanting in autumn each year, choose plump bulbs with a diameter of over 5 cm, combined with loose and breathable substrates, to harvest fragrant and beautiful flower spikes again.
