In rhododendron propagation methods, high-pressure is one of the commonly used methods. In the past, high-pressure was a relatively ugly package of soil wrapped around the stem of the rhododendron. Creative gardening enthusiasts came up with the idea of using a coffee cup (or a disposable cup can be used as a substitute) for high-pressure. The biggest advantage of this method is not only its aesthetics but also the fact that you can directly take a small pot after the roots have grown.

Then find the stem segment to be high-pressured, preferably not the only main stem of a rhododendron to avoid affecting the growth of the seedlings. However, it should be thick enough, otherwise, there's no difference from a cutting seedling, since the purpose of high-pressure is to get strong seedlings. Cut off the remaining flowers on top, scrape off 2~3 cm of the bark on the stem segment with a knife, making sure to clean off the green cortex to expose the white xylem. The upper and lower incisions should be as flat as possible. The thorns on the upper and lower parts can be removed to avoid affecting the operation. The buds at the lower incision should be scraped off to prevent germination.
Put the prepared paper cup on the stem, seal the incision with tape. Carefully fill in clean media (optional media: peat, moss, sawdust, nutrient soil, etc., garden soil is not recommended) and the area around the cup can be reinforced with tape or nylon绳. Cover the surface of the medium with a wet paper towel (to prevent rain from washing away the medium), and you can change the paper towels several times. Soak the cup with water until water leaks from the bottom hole. During subsequent maintenance, water when the paper towel is dry, and make sure it is thoroughly soaked.
About 35 to 45 days later, cut the high-pressure package and transfer it to a small pot for further care.
