Can young rose plants be planted in large pots?
There is actually no standard answer to this question. Generally, it is recommended to follow the traditional method, starting with a small pot and gradually moving to a larger one.
Because the roots of young rose plants are relatively weak, and they don't have many leaves, they consume less water. Large pots have more soil, which dries out slower, and if they are grown indoors on a balcony, the soil in the pot dries even slower. The roots of roses are prone to becoming闷根 in moist soil for extended periods.
Even if they don't become闷根, it is not conducive to root growth. Plant roots grow better in a dry-wet cycle environment. This is why we usually plant small seedlings in small pots and keep the soil in the pot slightly dry, commonly known as "training the seedlings," which is to stimulate the growth of plant roots.
For新手 flower enthusiasts, there is also a big problem, which is that they like to water too much, or they don't grasp the timing of watering well. This is actually a bit of闷root, with weak root growth, and the seedling naturally does not grow well. For such a large seedling, the Green Enthusiast Network recommends planting it in a v9 square pot or a small pot with a diameter of about 8cm.
The one in the picture above has the same problem, and the seedling is getting weaker and weaker. It is recommended to switch to a smaller pot for maintenance.
So can young seedlings only be planted in small pots? Of course not. In fact, many people grow small seedlings in large pots and they grow well, and their growth is more vigorous.
