Conophytum khamiesbergense
Conophytum khamiesbergense resembles marine life, with leaves similar to Halopteris okamurae. The plant surface has protruding warts, and the tip of the succulent leaves has several particularly prominent sharp thorns.
Conophytum khamiesbergense is particularly prone to forming clusters. Each year, it sheds 2-3 heads, and if the plant grows into a large cluster, the number of shed heads in the following year will decrease to 1, at which point the plant can be divided. Separating the small clusters will allow the nutrition to replenish and the heads to return to the original 1 shed 3 heads. Poor care can easily lead to death or the loss of some heads.
Conophytum khamiesbergense blooms pink flowers in autumn. The flowers are cross-pollinated and diurnal. It dormancy in summer and grows in other seasons. The shedding period is about a month later than Lithops and is also longer. During the shedding period, it can be exposed to more sunlight, but care must be taken with the spring sun to avoid sunburn. Water should be reduced or withheld during the shedding period.
By the end of April to May, the shedding is usually complete. If watered during this period, the shedding period can extend into summer. The shedding process of Conophytum khamiesbergense is similar to Lithops, with the succulent leaves slowly splitting and new plants gradually growing from the gaps of the old plants. The old plants will slowly dry out and become brittle, at which point the shedding is considered successful. The planting material used for kites is a mixture of coal slag with a small amount of peat, also mixed with a small amount of red jade soil and orchid stone. The surface is covered with granular river sand.
