Cultivation methods of false cactus
Today's experience sharing: knowledge about the false cactus plant, cultivation methods of false cactus, next, let me introduce.
False cactus prefers a semi-shaded environment. In North China, it needs to be shaded by 50% to 60% during summer, and the temperature for overwintering should not be lower than 10°C. False cactus has a poorer tolerance to high temperatures and drought resistance than蟹爪兰 (Schlumbergera). If not properly managed, it may experience a large number of branches shedding, and in severe cases, root rot and plant death. The reason is that it goes into dormancy under high temperature and drought conditions, significantly reducing the root absorption capacity. The optimal growth temperature for false cactus is between 15 to 25°C. After the bud formation, it should not be moved randomly, and the potting soil should be kept moist, otherwise, it is prone to bud and flower drop.
Cultivation soil for false cactus:
False cactus can be planted in a mixture of 3 parts peat soil or decomposed leaf soil with 1 part sand or perlite. The root system of this plant is not very developed, so it should be planted in a small pot with a diameter of 10 to 13 cm. The pot should not be too large. When potting, fill about 1/4 of the bottom of the pot with granular broken bricks or pot pieces to facilitate drainage and aeration. Generally, at the end of spring or the beginning of summer, after flowering, there is a short dormant period, which is suitable for repotting. During repotting, gently shake off the old soil from the roots and replant with new soil. If planted using the hanging method, moss can be used as the potting medium, planting the plant in a shallow pot and then hanging it indoors for appreciation after the plant recovers.
False cactus requires ample water throughout its growth and flowering period, keeping the potting soil consistently moist but avoiding waterlogging. After the flowering period, there is a 2 to 3-week dormant period. Watering should be reduced to maintain the potting soil slightly moist but not completely dry. After the dormant period, gradually increase the amount of watering. Initially, when the surface of the potting soil is about 1 cm dry and the bottom soil is still moist, it can be watered until spring. When the indoor temperature drops to below 15°C in winter, reduce watering to keep the potting soil slightly moist. False cactus prefers humidity, and to maintain higher air humidity, water can be sprinkled several times a day around the plant, on shelves, or on the ground.
