How to plant the succulent Hongshuang
Today, I will introduce some experience in cultivating the succulent plant Hongshuang. How to plant Hongshuang? Let's learn about it together.
Some flower enthusiasts are eager to know how to plant Hongshuang. Hongshuang requires a sunny and cool, dry environment, can tolerate semi-shade, is afraid of waterlogging, dislikes stuffy heat and humidity. It has the habit of growing in cold seasons and dormant in high summer temperatures. Hongshuang is not strict about soil requirements, and it can be maintained with peat soil mixed with coarse sand to keep it permeable.
From September of each year to June of the following year is the growing period of Hongshuang (the growing period varies depending on the environment of different flower enthusiasts). If there is insufficient light, the plant is very prone to excessive growth, the distance between the leaves will be longer, making the plant look loose, the stems become very weak, the leaves will also stretch out, and the color will fade. Plants grown in sufficient sunlight have a stocky shape, and the leaves are relatively compact, and Hongshuang does not grow too slowly.
Flower enthusiast's care example:
Qi'yong's Hongshuang is kept in a sunroom with full sun exposure. During the growing period, the soil should be kept slightly moist, avoiding waterlogging. Qi'yong used a mixture of coal slag, peat, and a small amount of pearl rock, with a ratio of about 6:3:1. Hongshuang can tolerate temperatures of about zero degrees when the potting soil is dry, which is the indoor temperature, not outdoors. Watering is basically stopped during the whole winter, and watering should be gradually reduced when the temperature is below 5 degrees.
When the temperature exceeds 30°C in summer, the plant's growth basically stops. At this time, watering should be reduced to prevent root rot due to excessively moist potting soil. It is also necessary to strengthen ventilation, provide some shade, and avoid exposure to strong sunlight. This is the basic care throughout the summer. It should be noted that in the summer, Qi'yong does not completely stop watering; only a small amount of water is given to prevent the old leaves from drying out. Watering is done only at the edge of the pot, about 2-4 times a month, between 7-9 pm when the sun has already set, which will not affect the plant's roots.
In cultivation, it is necessary to avoid prolonged rain to prevent root damage and yellowing and rotting of the branches. Since Hongshuang grows relatively quickly, changing the pot once every 1-2 years is enough. This is done before the first watering in early spring.
Hongshuang has branches, and propagation can be done through cutting and dividing. Branch cutting is very simple; just take a healthy old branch, let it dry, and plant it in slightly moist sandy soil. In a cool and well-ventilated environment, it will usually grow roots in more than 20 days. It is important not to water too often during cutting to avoid stem rot. Cutting should be done in spring and autumn.
