Home Composting
Plant Management Tips, this section covers common knowledge about flower care, including home composting (gardener's experience). Next, the editor will introduce some information on home composting.
Composting is an ideal organic fertilizer, but it poses a significant challenge for gardeners. With numerous composting methods available, how to compost at home has become a dilemma for many. This article summarizes some composting experiences which can be very helpful for gardeners.
Here are some composting experiences:
1. Fish Intestine Fertilizer: This is the most challenging, visually unappealing. I used a large plastic bucket 45 cm high, filled with fish intestines (asked for them at the market, picked up a large bucket every week), leaving a 15 cm space, loosely covered in winter to allow air circulation, after two months sealed the inner and outer lids to prevent insects, and after a year, opened it, added some enzyme, and covered it for another month before it can be used.
Summary: The composted material does not smell, only a slight sour smell, suitable for outdoor composting but not indoor; for use, the liquid part is used as a top-dress fertilizer, and the solid part is used as a base fertilizer.
2. Composting Pine Needle and Chicken Manure Soil: Roses like the acidity of pine needles, which makes the soil loose and breathable, and adding chicken manure makes the roses larger and more abundant. I use a large Styrofoam box (sometimes I also use a 15 kg thick cat food bag, layering the old rose soil like a sandwich, sometimes adding rice washing water or NPK, and it can be used after half a year, as it doesn't smell because of the soil, it is a dry composting.
Summary: No insects and no smell, suitable for outdoor composting, can be used as a base fertilizer or directly for planting.
3. Composting hemp seed residue: Buy 30 pounds of wet hemp seed residue for 10 yuan at the sesame oil pressing place at the market, put it in a large oil壶 and add 20% water, pay attention to release gas, I usually use a plastic bag with a few needle holes tied with a rubber band, after 6 months, it has the smell of hemp oil, this composting does not produce insects, and is very useful for top-dressing. The excess hemp residue is mixed with soil and kitchen waste in a large Styrofoam box, which can produce insects and is used as a base fertilizer.
Summary: The water composting is very convenient for top-dressing, with the smell of hemp oil mixed with a little odor, using enzyme for a day before use can reduce the smell, and the mixed compost is used as a base fertilizer with no particular smell.
4. Kitchen Waste Composting: A large bucket is used to compost daily kitchen waste, wet composting, sealed when full, occasionally small flies lay eggs around the lid and can produce insects.
Summary: A series of green fertilizers, not enough fertilizer power, just waste utilization to reduce the burden on sanitation workers, of course, it can also loosen the soil.
Additional: Soybean dregs and soybean meal water composting smell stronger than hemp residue, usually I don't compost in water, mixing with soil for dry composting is better, not recommended indoors due to the smell and easily attracting insects.
The above is a comprehensive explanation of home composting (gardener's experience), hoping it can help you.
