Rose cuttings can be done throughout the year, but it is best to do it in spring and avoid summer. The survival rate is the highest in spring, while it is relatively low in summer. Many friends have noticed that their rose cuttings have sprouted new buds but die after a few days. What is going on?
1. Choose strong branches
Many friends choose the branches cut during pruning to maintain the beauty of the original potted plants, and then they proceed with propagation without selection. Most of these branches are tender or dried branches, so the survival rate will be relatively low. Choosing the right branches for propagation is very important. We must choose sturdy branches to ensure the survival rate of the cutting branches!
2. Soak the branches
You can buy rooting powder online, dilute it with water, and soak the branches for two hours. However, if you don't have rooting powder, you can mix vinegar with water at a ratio of 1:100 and soak the branches. Soaking the branches is an essential step in the propagation process!

3. Choose soil
When choosing soil, select loose and nutritious soil. Simple and nutrient-rich soil is not suitable for rose propagation. To prevent soil compaction, remember to add some decomposed leaf soil, river sand, and a small amount of perlite to the soil. This is mainly to increase the permeability of the soil and maintain good permeability for the plant!
4. Propagate
First, place the selected soil in the pot, then insert the branches we selected earlier into the soil, and add a layer of perlite about 1cm thick on the surface of the soil. Then start watering, making sure to water the soil thoroughly the first time. After that, move the potted plant to a place with diffused light and let it sit for 5 days. After five days, you will see new buds on the cut branches.
5. Post-propagation care
Just because new buds have appeared on our branches does not mean that the propagation process is over. We still need to provide careful care in the later stages. Make sure not to expose the cut branches to direct sunlight, as this is harmful to roses. Do not move the potted plant randomly.
