Why can't the Chinese rose grow well? Why does the Chinese rose always fail to grow well?

Why don't the roses always grow well?

You may not understand the knowledge about why roses don't always grow well. Let's get to know it together.

This is the 811th day of the original article series.

This article is one of the original theories.

《Roses Cultivation Three-Step Method》series of articles: the 11th article

In the last article, we talked about the selection and precautions of flower pots. Now that the flower pots are ready, the next step is the potting soil.

Rose potting soil is quite particular.

In fact, it's not just roses. Any kind of flower seems to be delicate when grown in a pot, always having certain requirements for the potting soil. If you grow them like in the field, using pure garden soil, they are often likely to be nurtured to death...

So how should the soil for roses be mixed?

Talking about the soil mixture for rose potting, it can be complex and simple at the same time.

Simplistically, just follow two soil mixing principles.

1. Soil mixing principle: slightly acidic, loose, breathable, water-retaining, and nutrient-retaining. 2. Medium proportion: fine fiber material: particle material = 2:1.

It may sound simple, but it is actually more complicated in practice.

To mix good soil for roses, you need not only master the soil mixing principles but also understand the characteristics of various cultivation substrates.

Which substrates can be used? Which are used more often? Which are used less often?

I. Introduction to common cultivation substrates:

1. Peat soil

Peat soil particles are fine, have good water retention when fully hydrated, but poor breathability, and once the potting soil is completely dry, it is difficult to water.

What we often refer to as peat soil generally means imported peat soil and domestic peat soil. These two types of peat soils are different and need to be distinguished.

Domestic peat soil is called Northeast grass charcoal or grass charcoal soil, which has poor water and nutrient retention, more dust, and is inexpensive, making it a commonly used substrate for mass seedling production.

2. Coconut coir

Coconut coir particles are fine, with very good water retention, currently widely used, and inexpensive. It should be noted that it may contain salt and should be treated before use.

3. Coconut shell (coarse coconut coir)

Coconut shell particles are coarse, have good water permeability and breathability, and also very good water retention.

4. Perlite

Perlite has good breathability and is lightweight. Use large-particle perlite, as 2-8mm perlite is fragile and small particles are prone to crushing, causing compaction. It's best to wash off the fine powder before using it.

5. Vermiculite

Vermiculite has good breathability and water retention, but its particle quality is poor and it is easily crushed.

6. Pine bark
