Red spiders and aphids are always common visitors to hibiscus plants, and hibiscus is also known as a plant that requires a lot of medication. Let's see how gardening enthusiasts treat hibiscus red spiders. I've been growing hibiscus for three years, and every summer, the plants are plagued by red spiders. This year is no exception. The high temperatures at the end of June triggered a widespread infestation, forcing me to resort to drastic measures to completely eradicate the red spiders. Sharing my experience for discussion among fellow gardening enthusiasts.
Method is simple and straightforward
Step 1: Pruning. When you find that a large area of hibiscus is infected with red spiders and the plants are bushy, making it difficult to spray medicine, then grab a pair of pruning shears and cut everything back, leaving two to three buds (and tidying up the plant shape in the process).
Step 2: Dispose. Gather the cut branches and leaves, and destroy them, either by burning them or sealing them in a plastic bag and exposing them to high temperatures to kill the pests!
Step 3: Apply pesticide. I used Aicai Card. After pruning, there were only bare branches left in the pot. At this point, I applied the pesticide thoroughly, covering the branches, pot, potting soil, and the surrounding ground. I sprayed every two days, for a total of three times, which basically eradicated the pests.
Step 4: Fertilize. After a severe pruning, hibiscus plants urgently need to replenish nutrients to grow new branches and flower buds. The type of fertilizer used depends on personal preference. I used fast-acting compound fertilizer and slow-release fertilizer. (Organic fertilizers should be used sparingly in summer, as high temperatures can easily cause fungi to grow).
Additional note: For those who can't bear to prune heavily, you can remove all the leaves and then spray the pesticide, which is also effective.
